Prateek is a cinematographer driven by the belief that cinema is more than just storytelling or visual language—it's an experience that transcends both, connecting with audiences on an emotional and sensory level. His most recent work, Cycle Mahesh, won the Best First Feature award at IDFA, affirming his commitment to capturing the essence of humanity with visual poetry.

Prateek’s love for cinema began on those quiet Friday nights, watching movies with his brother on Doordarshan. Little did he know that those films would spark something deep within him. Then, at an early age, his father gifted him a Pentax Espio—a moment he now sees as the start of everything. Looking back, he realizes those were the seeds that grew into his journey, and the passion that would one day guide his lens.

Growing up in Indore, Prateek’s path began in electronics engineering before film took hold of him—a shift that led him to the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, where he refined his craft under the mentorship of some of the world’s most accomplished cinematographers. In 2022, he was selected for the Asian Film Academy (AFA) in Busan, where he trained under the guidance of renowned filmmaker Rithy Panh.

Over the past decade, his lens has carried him across India and beyond, exploring the textures of people and landscapes with equal care. His work thrives on collaboration, finding strength in the creative energy of the people around him. This approach has led to award-winning projects like Catdog, which earned First Prize at Cannes Cinéfondation 2020 and Best Cinematography at the Tel Aviv International Film Festival. In fact, most of the films Prateek has worked on have been recognized with awards, underscoring his dedication to meaningful visual storytelling.

Prateek’s images are guided by rhythm—tempo, color, and flow—elements rooted in his upbringing and sharpened by years of observation. Whether working on a quiet documentary or a dynamic narrative, he approaches each frame with curiosity and a deep sensitivity to the world around him.

Prateek has also worked on high-profile commercial campaigns for brands such as Kerala Tourism, UpGrad, HSBC’s global campaign, Amazon, Jeevansathi, and Vivo Mobile, among others.

For Prateek, cinematography isn’t confined to storytelling or visual technique—it’s about creating a powerful, shared experience that evokes emotion and meaning for the viewer.
